New coaches were presented with helpful information on how to administer IML contests and also given helpful tips on how to maintain a new math team. Veteran coaches were presented with interesting topics exploring quadrilaterals and precalculus. Photos of the coaches meeting have been posted and if you have any questions or comments, please contact exec@nyciml.org.Thank you to all the coaches and math APs that made this meeting possible!  We look forward to seeing all the coaches again next...

New York Math Circle and Math-M-Addicts

Welcome coaches to a new school year. From the recommendation of one of the question writers, I would like to introduce two programs that offer an opportunity to expand students’ knowledge of mathematics: New York Math Circle: The New York Math Circle is a non-profit organization dedicated to enriching and supplementing Mathematical education in New York City. It seeks to stimulate the enjoyment, appreciation and knowledge of Mathematics through problem solving and guided discovery, both in our classes for students, and through courses for teachers. New York Math Circle’s goal is to constantly challenge your mind. You’ll get to solve unusual problems and invent your own, apply existing knowledge in new situations, learn famous gems of mathematics, and explore the unknown. The Math Circle will open your eyes and increase your sensitivity to all the mathematics around us. Our main requirement is that you have an open mind and a willingness to work. New York Math Circle Brochure Math-M-Addicts (mathmaddicts.com): Math-M-Addicts is a selective, rigorous Saturday math enrichment program for 5th – 12th graders that focuses on creative problem solving. Students are introduced to advanced math topics in ways that build their critical, strategic, and logical thinking and communication skills. Math-M-Addicts is able to offer some of the most advanced math curriculum to middle and high school students available in NYC because the founders and many of the teachers themselves are former math Olympiad contestants and winners. Many of our alumni credit Math-M-Addicts as being the most rewarding and challenging learning experience of their academic lives. For some, MMA inspired them to pursue STEM majors in college and in...

NYCIML Freshman Executive Application 2016

The New York City Interscholastic Math League is accepting freshman members to serve on the Executive Committee in the upcoming school year 2016-2017. The Executive Committee consists of college students who have participated in the IML in high school. There are currently two juniors, three sophomores, and two freshman members on the committee. Each new member is expected to serve on the committee until he or she graduates from college. The executive members are assigned different roles within the organization each year. A more detailed job description of the committee members can be found in the application. Joining the Executive Committee is a great opportunity to give back to the high school math team community and to learn about teamwork and leadership. Our current executive members have enjoyed maintaining the quality and integrity of the league’s contests, implementing new ideas and coming up with ways to reach out to more schools across New York City and beyond, as well as interacting with coaches and students from our participating schools. Any graduating high school senior who is interested in joining the math league and whose character, vision, and dedication resembles who we seek is welcomed to apply. The application can be found here. The application should be filled out and returned to exec@nyciml.org by Sunday, June 12th 2016 (Earlier the better, so we can start getting in contact with you). If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to email us at that email too. *** Attachment: NYCIML Freshman Executive Application...
