NYCIML Freshman Executive Application 2015

Coaches:

The NYCIML Freshman Executive Application 2015-2016 is finally available now!!! NYCIML is a nonprofit organization where college students volunteer their time to the math community. Every year, we search for high school seniors who are willing to become part of the NYCIML community. This year, we are doing it again! The applications are posted below and are due Sunday, June 7th, 2015. Instructions are included in the application. Please share this to your students (or the whole school!) for this awesome opportunity! If you have any students that you believe are great for the NYCIML community, don’t hesitate in asking them to apply. Although limited to high school seniors, we encourage awesome coaches like you to let them keep note that once they become a high school senior, they can apply to be part of our community!

If you have any questions regarding the application, please email us at exec@nyciml.org

NYCIML 2014-2015 Registration

Dear Coaches,
Welcome back! We hope you had a great summer and we look forward to working with you again. Gagik Hakobyan and I will continue to be NYCIML Co-Presidents this year. In order to register for NYCIML contests, the link is below:

https://nyciml.org/contests/registration
Please make sure you register with us before the first contest (preferably before Saturday, October 4th).

We want to let you know that there are rule changes this year. In the previous years, we had run into the issue with uneven team sizes. This is because the previous rules allowed for switching of representing students in between pairs of questions. In an effort to make the team sizes more balanced, the new rules prohibit switching in between pairs of questions and requires that five active students compete the entire semester. In cases where one of the five students is not available, we allow a substitution. However, each team has a maximum of two substituting students who will be included in our database and cannot change until the semester ends.  For more information about the rule change, please read “Team composition and number of teams per school” in the PDF attached in this email. This information is also available on our website here: https://nyciml.org/contests/rules

If you have any questions about the rules, please email us at exec@nyciml.org

Lastly, as promised, we designed a new scoring system. We are currently running our final tests to ensure that there will be minimal problems in the near future. More information on how to report scores will be available within a week.

Thank you, and we hope to see you soon!

Sincerely yours,
Alex Chew

2014-2015 NYCIML Executive Committee Freshmen Applications are now available!

The New York City Interscholastic Math League is accepting freshman members to serve on the Executive Committee in the upcoming school year 2014-2015. The Executive Committee consists of college students who have participated in the IML in high school. There are currently three juniors, two sophomores, and three freshman members on the committee. Each new member is expected to serve on the committee until he or she graduates from college. The executive members are assigned different roles within the organization each year. A more detailed job description of the committee members can be found in the application.

Joining the Executive Committee is a great opportunity to give back to the high school math team community and to learn about teamwork and leadership. Our current executive members have enjoyed maintaining the quality and integrity of the league’s contests, implementing new ideas and coming up with ways to reach out to more schools across New York City and beyond, as well as interacting with coaches and students from our participating schools.

Any graduating high school senior who is interested in joining the math league and whose character, vision, and dedication resembles who we seek is welcomed to apply.

The application can be found here. The application should be filled out and returned to exec@nyciml.org by Sunday, April 27th 2014 (Earlier the better, so we can start getting in contact with you). If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to email us at that email too.
